Sony NGP

[ 27th JAN 2010 ] Sony announced its next generation portable entertainment system, the NGP (Next Generation Portable), which delivers the ultimate portable entertainment experience. NGP is designed to offer unparalleled interactive entertainment that is only possible on PlayStation®. This new system offers a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context, made possible by leveraging SCE’s experience from both the PSP and PlayStation 3 systems. Deep and immersive gaming is at the core of PlayStation’s DNA, and NGP is the latest embodiment of this vision. By having both Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity, together with various applications, NGP will enable infinite possibilities for users to “encounter,” “connect,” “discover,” “share” and “play” with friends wherever they are. Within the device are a range of features that provide a genuinely cutting-edge, next generation ultimate portable entertainment experience. A release is slated towards the end of 2011.

The NGP Is Sony's Super-Powered Playstation Portable.

The Sony PSP2 has arrived under the codename NGP. It has a 5-inch OLED touchscreen, dual analog sticks, front/rear cameras,a touch-sensitive panel on the back of the device used for control along with a quad-core CPU and GPU. (Updated)

Update: Turns out the internal magic of the PSP2 lies in its quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor and quad-core PowerVR SGX534MP4+ GPU. 

In addition to the above specs, the PSP2/NGP has 3G, Bluetooth and GPS, along with wi-fi, and Sony claims this thing is as powerful as a PS3. The 5-inch screen is roughly 4x higher resolution than what's previously been featured in PSP devices (960x544). Via: gizmodo
